Welcome
– on these pages you will find plenty of information about Weston General
Hospital and its services.
The hospital is run by Weston Area Health
NHS Trust and all our staff are committed to providing excellent patient
care.
Patient Safety is our Top Priority
Here at Weston Area Health NHS Trust we are clear that we have
one priority in mind:
To deliver, safe, high quality and clinically effective
services
We are working hard to show our community that we are improving
our performance all the time and offering our patients an ever-more
positive experience when they visit or stay with us.
Here are some examples of how we have put Patient Safety First and
improved Patient Experience during 2009/10
- We have opened a new state-of-the-art Scanning Suite so
our patients no longer have to rely on a visiting mobile service,
which required them to go outside in all weathers to access it (see
article below)
- Our clinicians and pharmacists have focussed on medicines
management to ensure our compliance with best practice in the
monitoring, control and usage of drugs and reduce the risk of
unintended errors
- We have invested in our in-house cleaning team, which now
operates 24-hours-a-day and seven-days-a-week
- Patients visiting our Community Children’s Services site
in
Drove Road now receive a reminder
about pedestrian safety on site with their appointment letter
- Our Millennium IT system has enabled all in-patients to
have printed wristbands to reduce the risk of confusion due to poor
handwriting or blurred inks
- It also records all patients’ national NHS numbers – as
double security against the risk of mis-identification
- We put yellow covers on the notes of patients undergoing
chemotherapy, so they can be recognised as special if they are
admitted unexpectedly as an emergency
Some of these examples are hugely significant and affect
everyone who comes through the doors, while others affect only
individuals or small groups.
We are focussed on making all the improvements we can – no
matter how large or small – they all help to make the hospital the safe
and secure environment we all need it to be.
Weston Area Health NHS Trust aims to be:
Quality – An organisation providing safe sustainable clinical
services, which promotes health and wellbeing, as well as treats ill
health. To be the Hospital of choice, with a reputation for consistently
delivering excellence and innovation
People - Recognised as a first-class employer for investing in
people, developing skills and encouraging innovation
Business - A highly respected and profitable organisation and a
good community citizen - socially responsible and locally accountable
