Ophthalmology
(Eye Care)

Diagnosing and treating eye conditions and diseases, such as cataracts and
glaucoma.
Referral & Clinics
Visiting Consultants provide specialist eye care services via out-patient
clinics.
Patients are referred via their GP. There may be a need for patients with
certain conditions to be referred to Bristol Eye Hospital for treatment.
There is a 24-hour Accident and Emergency service at Weston, but there is not
a resident ophthalmic consultant on 24-hour call.
Low Vision Services
A Low Vision Clinic takes place every Wednesday morning. Appointments are
made via Consultant or GP referral. Patients’ sight is tested and they are
issued with prescription spectacles or an appropriate magnifier on long-term
loan.
