A huge thank you to Bleadon WI as they raise over £7,000 for Scanner Appeal

The League of Friends for Weston General Hospital popped in to the monthly meeting of Bleadon Women’s Institute (WI) to say a big thank you to them for raising an amazing £7,350 for Weston General Hospital’s Scanner Appeal. Bleadon WI has been running since 2009 drawing support from a wide range of members from the community.

The £7,350 was raised through a raffle and silent auction at the Institute’s Ball at a local venue at the end of last year.

Around 120 guests including Institute members, their friends and family and representatives from the local business community and organisations attended the black tie event. They spent an evening enjoying the night’s food and entertainment raising money for a very important cause and their local NHS hospital.

Speaking about the evening Hazel Saunders, President of Bleadon WI said: “The Ball was held specifically to raise money for the Scanner Appeal and we’re delighted that it was such a success. We’d like to thank all our members and local community who came and gave so generously.

“Our previous President attended the launch of the Scanner Appeal back in 2016 and this inspired us to make it our chosen charity for the evening. Our members are all proud supporters of our local NHS. We all rely on Weston General Hospital and know this money will go to a very good cause.

Thanking Bleadon Women’s Institute June Stephen, Chair of the League of Friends for Weston Hospitals said:

“This is a remarkable achievement from one night of fundraising and we owe a huge debt of gratitude to Bleadon WI. This money will go towards the cost of the scanner and the refurbishment works in the X- Ray department. This will improve facilities for all our hospital’s patients.

“We’re not quite finished fundraising for the Scanner Appeal” concluded Hazel “our WI choir the Bleadon Belles are holding a concert at the Coronation Hall on 24 March 2018 to raise money for the Appeal. Please do come along and support us.”
