Welcome from James Rimmer our Chief Executive

On behalf of all the staff, volunteers and Board of Directors I would like to extend a warm welcome to you from Weston Area Health NHS Trust.

We're a small, friendly, patient focused NHS Trust offering a range of excellent clinical services both on-site and in conjunction with larger hospitals across Bristol and Somerset. We are a teaching hospital and are proud to support the training and development of the next generation of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.

The smallest acute Trust in England, we consist of Weston General Hospital and Children's Specialist Community Services. We are proud to care for the residents of Weston-super-Mare and North Somerset and the thousands of day trippers and tourists who come to the region each year.

Weston General Hospital is a district general hospital, with around 245 beds offering a full range of inpatient emergency and surgical services. Specialist Community Children's Services in Weston and Clevedon provide a programme of community treatment and therapy services to children and young people.

Our hospital facilities include four operating theatres which have recently undergone a £2.4 million refurbishment programme, a newly refurbished Outpatient unit, an endoscopy unit, as well as a chemotherapy day case unit. We see around 55,000 people in our Emergency department every year.

Other services include our Ashcombe Birth Centre, a midwife led unit which is UNICEF accredited and the WISH sexual health clinic which runs convenient confidential drop-in sessions.

Our wonderful team of volunteers offer patients assistance with eating and drinking, companionship to patients who may not receive many visitors and welcome people to the hospital at our front reception desk.

Inpatients can sit back and listen to our award winning Sunshine Radio. We have a quiet and pleasant seating area with a duck pond next to Rafters Restaurant.

Our hospital food ranks among the highest for taste, choice and quality in the country. Our friendly and dedicated housekeeping team have won two national awards for cleanliness and team working.

The hospital is well served by public transport and and our car parking is among the lowest for hospitals in the south west with the first half hour free

We have a Patients' Council made up of local volunteers who give us important feedback from a patients perspective. We also rely on the kind donations of members of the public and the hospital League of Friends who support our work. If you would like to make a donation to the hospital or support our Scanner Appeal please visit our page

Patients and visitors can obtain support from our Patient Advice and Liasion Service (PALS). Their job is to give patients, families and carers any support and advice they may need while in hospital or being cared for by the Trust.

We hope you're never unhappy about your care, but if you need to speak to someone please contact PALS who will support you through this process. They can liaise with various hospital and community services on your behalf and if you would like to say thank you to a member of staff or a department - they can do this for you.

We are always keen to hear feedback about our treatment and care so please contact us.

And if you would like to talk to us directly, you can follow us on Twitter and Facebook and rate us on NHS Choices.

With best wishes

James Rimmer
