Sue is a clinical leader with over 35 years’ experience of the NHS and healthcare. As a registered nurse she has benefited from working in both acute and community services as well as in a mental health trust. She has significant urgent and emergency care clinical experience as well as being a qualified health visitor.
More recently she has worked extensively as a board-level executive director and was the director of nursing and patient safety at Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust before taking early retirement in October 2017. Prior to this she was chief nurse at a community trust for five years and the director of nursing in a primary care trust in Somerset. She has significant system leadership experience having previously led clinical service redesign projects within the Somerset STP (sustainability and transformation plan).
Sue is passionate about the delivery of high-quality, safe patient care and has worked tirelessly throughout her career to champion truly integrated care which puts the patient and their carer at the centre of all care delivery. As a career nurse she truly values the contribution that all clinicians make and is proud to have led the development of a number of exciting extended roles for nurses and AHPs (allied health professionals), and in particular the associate nurse role in Somerset in 2017.
