New Chair Appointed at Weston Area Health NHS Trust

The NHS Trust Development Authority (NHS TDA) has today confirmed the appointment of Mr Peter Carr as Chair of Weston Area Health NHS Trust. Mr Carr succeeds Chris Creswick, who is retiring after five years in the post.

Mr Carr was a Non Executive Director at the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust and subsequently was appointed as Chair of the Great Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust. During a two year period in that post he successfully amalgamated the Great Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust with the South West Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. The combined organisation is now one of the best performing ambulance services in the country.

Mr Carr's previous career was largely spent in the retail industry, culminating in his appointment as Managing Director of Debenhams. Later, he led a successful turnaround of a Spanish retail business before returning to the UK where he was asked by the Government to become involved in the reconstruction of Royal Mail and its Post Office business by forming and becoming the founding Chairman of the Consumer Council "Postwatch" for six years. Mr Carr holds various Board level appointments in railway, travel, hospitality and IT businesses. He is a Governor of Aldenham School and a lay member of the Church of England.

Mr Creswick said "I am delighted that Peter Carr will be bringing his vast experience of helping organisations through successful change to the Trust. It has been a privilege to work with so many able and committed people over the past five years and much has been achieved. I am sure that with Peter's leadership the Trust will be able to work with the NHS Trust Development Authority to secure a sustainable position for the delivery of the services needed by the community we serve as soon as possible.

Mr Carr said "I look forward to working with Nick Wood and to continue the work of improving the provision of healthcare services in the Weston area".

Non Executive appointments to NHS Trusts made by the NHS TDA are subject to the Code of Practice of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

Mr Carr has been appointed from 1 August 2013 for a period of two years and is entitled to receive a remuneration of £18,621 per annum.
