CURRENT HEALTHCARE STATUS

HIGH LEVEL OF DEMAND

The hospital is currently experiencing a high level of demand, along with other hospitals in the area, the ambulance service and community health services across the area, due to unprecedented number of people seeking healthcare services over the New Year and winter period.

During this time of escalation our waiting times in the Emergency Department have been longer than normal and I apologise for any delays that may have been experienced by you or your relative.  We have opened a number of additional beds across the hospital and staff are working many additional hours to keep all areas safe and provide the best possible standard of care.

We are asking for your co-operation in helping us provide acute medical care for all patients who require it.  You can help us by understanding that when the medical team looking after you decide that your hospital treatment is complete you will be discharged from hospital, this might mean you will be asked to move to a care home in the community or a temporary nursing home until any care you might need at home is in place.  If you are going back home we ask that your friends or relatives arrange to collect you by 12 noon and you will be asked to wait in our Discharge Lounge.

It is always our aim to provide the highest standard of care and we will strive to ensure that excellent patient care is maintained during this time of escalation.  If you or your relative has experienced any care that you feel is below the standard that you would expect, I would like to personally apologise to you and ask you to bear with us during this very demanding time.

If you have any serious concerns please do direct these to either me, Medical Director, Dr Bee Martin, or Director of Nursing, Chris Perry, through our Patient Advice and Liaison Service 01934 647216 wnt-tr.pals@nhs.net.
