Two wards at Weston General Hospital have reopened after a Norovirus outbreak. Uphill and Berrow have reopened to new patient admissions. Kewstoke remains closed due to Norovirus with restrictions in place.
Ashcombe maternity unit is also now fully operational with all 12 beds available for expectant mothers. With unprecedented demand on the hospital’s services, eight beds had recently been used to treat female ED patients at the midwife-led unit. From this morning, Ashcombe is fully open to maternity patients.
Weston General Hospital continues to experience a high level of demand, as with other hospitals in the area. This has been exacerbated in Weston by the prolonged closure of three of our wards due to a Norovirus outbreak. Although the situation is improving the Trust still has additional beds open to help cope during this difficult time.
We continue to ask people to only attend ED if it is absolutely necessary and a medical emergency. Accident & Emergency is for life threatening and serious injury illnesses only. We are asking people to seek treatment from your local pharmacy, calling NHS 111, a local minor injuries unit and to consult your GP.
