If you had gone to the helipad at Weston General Hospital, you may have been surprised to see nurses from the hospital’s A&E department and paramedics from South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust in uniform doing a dance off against each other!
NHS staff took the ‘Running Man’ challenge as part of fundraising efforts to raise £70,000 for paramedic colleague Kathryn Osmond who needs specialist life-saving treatment after being diagnosed with stage four skin-cancer.
As part of the fundraiser, Diane Ball, Emergency Nurse Technician at the hospital also had her head shaved by a willing paramedic colleague, followed by a cake sale in the hospital’s main entrance. A&E staff raised over £2,500 from the day’s events which has, it’s just announced, already reached its target. Watch the full You Tube video below
Clinical lead for A&E Beccie Watkins said:
“People probably don’t realise how closely ambulance crews and A&E teams work together.
“We’ve known Kat for many years. She’s a well-respected and much loved colleague and when we heard that she needed life-saving treatment for cancer our first response was what can we do to help.
“It was great fun – especially with the ambulance crews and all for such a great cause.”
Anyone wishing to donate can do so through Kath’s fundraising page: .
The ‘Running Man’ is an internet challenge where people have to film themselves doing the hip hop ‘running man’ dance to music. The video is then posted on the web.
