Patients can put their feet up after generous donation

The footstools, costing a total of £2,500, were donated by the League of Friends, an independent charity that raises funds for projects around the hospital.

The generous contribution is just one of many made by the group who have provided support to the hospital over the last six decades.

Helen Richardson, director of nursing at Weston Area Health NHS Trust, who runs the hospital, said: “For many of our patients when they are sat out of bed, their legs need to be fully supported for comfort and as an aid to reduce swelling. These stools are fantastic for that purpose, and they’re helping us to effectively treat patients in our care with leg ulcers.

“We’re now seeing the footstools being put to good use in all of our wards, making a positive difference for patients.

“I’d like to express our thanks and gratitude to the League of Friends for their kind donation. They play a key role in raising funds to support the hospital and we really value their tireless efforts on our behalf.”

June Stephen, Chairman of League of Friends, said:  “We’re delighted to be able to donate these footstools to the hospital – we think they’ll make a real difference to patients comfort and safety.

“The League of Friends has always been committed to raising funds to support Weston General Hospital, whether that’s to buy equipment, such as footstools, or larger projects like the front entrance refurbishment that we donated too. Everything we do aims to improve patients’ experience of care when they stay at the hospital.”

The League of Friends has also launched a separate, ambitious appeal to raise up to £400,000 for new digital scanning equipment for the hospital.

The ‘Scanner Appeal’ will provide a range of benefits to patients and dramatically cut down on waiting times and travel.
