John Cleese lends support to Weston General’s Scanner Appeal

The Trust that runs Weston General, and its League of Friends (a charity that raises funds for the hospital) are working together to raise £400,000.

The money will buy new top of the range digital scanning equipment and refurbish the hospital’s X-Ray department. The Appeal marks the League’s 60th anniversary and will benefit over 70,000 people who use the X-Ray department every year.

At a recent live performance at Bristol’s Colston Hall, representatives from the League and the Trust caught up backstage with John Cleese who posed for photographs and gave words of encouragement and support to the fundraising drive in Weston-super-Mare.

The Monty Python and Hollywood star said, “I’m tremendously pleased to support the Scanner Appeal and Weston General - the local hospital of the town I grew up in. 

“This is a great cause. The new equipment and X-ray refurbishment will undoubtedly make a very positive difference to people’s health and lives. Good luck with all the fundraising efforts!” 

June Stephen, Chairman of the League of Friends, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have the support of John Cleese – a ‘local boy’ who’s now considered as one of the UK’s most well-known and influential comedy writers and performers.

 “Public support is essential to the success of this campaign and John’s backing will generate even more awareness to help us get to our £400,000 appeal target.”
