The landlady of Nightjar pub, based on the Meadvale estate, began supporting the hospital’s Seashore Centre when it first opened in February 2007.

Since then, the pub's regulars have fundraised to the tune of over £4,000 each year to help provide for local children and their families.

To mark Seashore's tenth birthday, an event was held at the Nightjar on Friday evening (27th January 2017) where a cheque with the pub’s latest donation of £4,100 was presented.

Staff from the children’s unit also surprised the pub’s regulars and its landlady, Diane Bradley, with a celebratory cake and flowers – as a thank you for the Nightjar's decade-long support.

In the ten years that Nightjar has supported the hospital’s children’s unit, generous patrons of the pub have contributed enough donations to buy many much-needed items, including medical equipment for children, child-friendly furniture and special scales to weigh disabled youngsters.

Speaking on the donation, Julia Marker, Ward Sister of the Seashore Centre, said: “Di and the regular’s from Nightjar are absolute angels.

“They’ve raised an incredible amount of money over the last ten years which has truly helped children in Weston. Because of their support we’re able to offer a wider range of services, meaning that young people don’t have to go elsewhere for treatment.

“We honestly cannot thank them enough for their kindness and generosity – it means so much to us and to local children and their families.”

Diane Bradley, landlady of the Nightjar, added: “We started fundraising before there was a children’s unit in Weston and we’ve continued to do so because it’s a really worthy cause – almost everyone has a connection to a child or perhaps a grandchild and they would want them to have access to the best care possible if they became sick or unwell.

“We’re proud to have raised so much money for the Seashore Centre over the last ten years through quiz nights, raffles and book sales – credit must go to the brilliant patrons of the Nightjar, though.

“They are always happy to put their hands straight into their pocket to support our fundraising efforts and their generosity is greatly appreciated.”
