On Sunday 19 August the League of Friends of Weston General Hospital is encouraging the local community to join them for a stroll along Brean Down Way. The ‘Step to a Scanner’ sponsored walk starts at Uphill Wharf Café-Bar, going past Uphill Marina, over Bleadon Cross Sluices and the Great Bird Screen of Brean, all the way to Diamond Farm and back again. This event will be the first time a local charity has walked this new all-weather track to raise money since it opened in July 2017.
Uphill Wharf Café-Bar is open from 9.30am serving breakfasts and refreshments and the team will be there from 10.30am to welcome walkers.
The walk begins at 11am and is a 4.2 mile round trip, with a rest break at the half way point. It will take approximately 45 minutes each way and the path is flat and dog friendly, making the walk suitable for all members of the family!
At Diamond Farm – the half-way point – free water and squash will be available and all participants are able to take advantage of their ‘hot drink and a cake’ deal at a reduced price.
If you would like to take part, you can collect sponsorship in the lead up to the event, or make a donation, in lieu of sponsorship, on the day.
You can register for free online at www.waht.nhs.uk/scannerappeal or simply turn up on the day.
Please make sure you are prepared for the weather on the day – if the hot weather continues you’ll need sun hats and plenty of sunscreen, or if our traditional summer weather returns waterproofs may be required! All walkers will be given bottled water for their journey provided by the League of Friends.
