WESTON HOSPITAL A&E SECOND MOST IMPROVED IN THE COUNTRY

A report issued by the NHS last week shows that the accident and emergency department at Weston General Hospital is the second most improved in the country over the last two years.

In January 2017 just over six in every ten patients were seen, treated and discharged or admitted within four hours. This has now increased to over eight out of ten patients. Only Aintree in Liverpool has shown a greater improvement in that time.

The department at Weston is now well above the national average in seeing patients within the four-hour target.

Chief Executive James Rimmer welcomed the report saying “This shows that the staff at Weston General Hospital are continuing to do a really effective job, prioritising the needs of the patients they see. The improvements have taken place consistently over the last two years, including when the department has been closed overnight. “

“We all know how stressful and worrying it can be to come into A&E; it is really important that people are seen quickly, with decisions made about their care as swiftly as possible. This national report shows that we have not only improved significantly but also that we are now above the national average for A&E departments.”

“This achievement is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of staff at Weston Hospital.” said Julia Ross, Chief Executive of Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire CCG.

“Ensuring that the Accident and Emergency department is well staffed during the busiest times of the day means more patients receive the right care, first time.”

“We now need to build on this success through the Healthy Weston programme, to make sure local people receive the best possible healthcare - within hospital and in the community.”
