The Interactive Schools Day was aimed at pupils undertaking the Health, Society and Development Diploma, who are likely to take up careers in the NHS.
This is the third year that the Trust has hosted the event, which was attended by 34 pupils from Clevedon and Churchill Community Schools.
They discussed the different roles now available to young people working in health and social care, with a special focus on maintaining patients’ dignity at all times during their care.
Experienced nurses from Weston Area Health NHS Trust taught sessions on preventing and treating choking, patient feeding and manual handling, while community specialists in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Podiatry gave talks and demonstrations on their occupations.
Alison Kingscott, Director of Workforce and Corporate Services at Weston Area Health NHS Trust, said: “The Trust was very pleased to repeat this very successful open day and it was hugely encouraging to see so many young people interested in pursuing a career in the NHS.
“It is particularly worthwhile to show them the sheer number and variety of roles which are available to them in the modern health service.”
