Overnight Move Sees Hospital Emergency Department Open in New Temporary Accommodation on Site

Home

The move took place overnight on April 12/13 and the GP Health Centre in the hospital also moved to adjacent temporary accommodation on the following day, April 14.

The Emergency Department is now at the front of the hospital and accessed via the second Grange Road entrance, at the Uphill Village end.  The GP Health Centre occupies rooms adjoining Quantock Ward and is accessed from the same entrance.

The moves went smoothly with minimum disruption to patients and to the running of the hospital.

Work starts this week (April 19) on the £8.5 million project to refurbish and extend the original Emergency Department, located at the rear of the Hospital. It is expected to open to patients in May 2011.

The Emergency Department and the GP Health Centre will work alongside each other in the new building, so that all Urgent Care treatment and staff will be accessed in the same place.

The new department will feature four new examination rooms, one new treatment bay and three new resuscitation bays. The waiting room will also be enlarged, as will the staff changing facilities and the storage space.
