Weston General Hospital is proud to launch its second Sparkle like a Diamond Day to take place on Thursday, April 1, 2010 – raising money for the new digital breast scanner at the hospital.
The idea is that hospital staff, school pupils and workers from all over town wear something sparkly, glittery, gold or silver on this one day – and pay £1 each for the privilege.
The sum raised is then forwarded to be paid into the Diamond Appeal fund (Registered Charity Number 1057589). Last year’s total was £2,750.
The Diamond Appeal was started in 2008 to coincide with the Diamond – 60th – anniversary of the National Health Service. The hospital is raising £220,000 for a Digital Breast Scanner and associated software, which will make Weston’s imaging service quicker, more streamlined and up-to-date.
At present, X-ray images are processed onto film, but a digital scanner takes an electronic image and stores it onto a computer. It will take just a couple of seconds to view an image and staff will no longer be required to process the images with chemicals, as they do now – so the new machine will make things better for both patients and staff.
Hospital Chief Executive Lorene Read said: “With more and more families coming to live in Weston, now is the perfect time for the Hospital to be striving to purchase one of these state-of-the art machines and we hope you will help us reach our total by joining in this unique event!
“We were delighted by the way the public got involved in the fun of the first Sparkle Like A Diamond Day in 2009 - both in the hospital and in the community.
“We know from last year that people find the sparkle theme easy to join in with. Even those who didn’t have any sparkly items of clothing wore holographic stickers instead – anything shiny counts!”
Anyone who would like to register for Sparkle Like A Diamond Day should use the hospital’s public email address which is weston.enquiries@nhs.net and we will send out copies of our Sparkle Like A Diamond Day poster by return email.
