Loyal WRVS Volunteers Donate £6,000 to Trust’s Diamond Appeal

Home

The 14 loyal ladies serve tea, coffee and hot chocolate in the main foyer of Weston General Hospital five days a week and their service is hugely appreciated by people waiting for appointments or visiting poorly friends and relatives.

Treasurer Joan Williams handed over the cheque to the Trust’s Director of Human Resources Alison Kingscott and Head of Facilities Trevor Chacksfield.

It is a huge boost to the Diamond Appeal which was launched in 2008 and is raising £220,000 for a digital breast scanner and associated software.

Joan Williams said: “We would very much like to recruit some more volunteers to help us deliver this service and keep on raising money for the appeal. It only involves giving up about three hours a week to cover a shift serving drinks here in the hospital foyer from our very modern, state-of-the-art vending machine.

“Anyone who would like to come and give it a try is welcome to ring us on 01934 511937.”

Alison Kingscott said: “The ladies of the WRVS are among our most loyal and supportive volunteer groups and we are very grateful, that as well as giving us their time, they have now also given us this very generous donation to our Diamond Appeal.

“The scanner will benefit women greatly as it will make our breast service quicker and more modern and this donation has helped to bring us nearer to the day we can go out and purchase it.”
