Community-based Midwifery Service

Home

Midwives from the Ashcombe Birth Centre also provide a service at local GP surgeries and Children’s Centres in the Weston and surrounding area as well as in the womens' home. The named midwife for your GP surgery should be your first point of contact in early pregnancy.  Appointments can be made at your GP surgery.

Midwives provide individualised care to meet women's and babies’ needs during pregnancy, labour and birth and the early postnatal period. The care provided ensures you feel confident, supported and enjoy a healthy pregnancy.  Care is mostly provided at the GP surgery but can also take place in the home.

Your named midwife will also advise of parent education classes available to you during your pregnancy.

The midwifery service provides a home birth service for women choosing to birth in the relaxed environment of their own homes.

A midwife will visit you and your baby at home to monitor your wellbeing and ensure a safe recovery and transition to family life.  Appointments at Children's Centres are also available for postnatal care; this will mean you can be seen at a time more convenient to you.

When your baby is between 11 and 28 days old your care will be transferred to your health visitor. The 6 week postnatal check is usually provided by your GP.
