Hospital hosts event to attract more volunteers

People are being invited to a drop-in event at Weston General Hospital to find out more about how they can help brighten up patients’ stays.

Weston Area Health NHS Trust, who runs the hospital, is seeking volunteers to help its staff look after patients and improve their experience at the hospital.

The Trust currently has more than 200 volunteers, who help out by spending time talking to patients, assisting with activities on the wards and providing office and admin support.

The Trust and its Patients’ Council are behind an initiative to recruit more people who have a few hours spare, and are holding a session on Saturday 30th January, from 10am – 12pm, for people to learn more about volunteering and how it benefits patients.

The drop-in event, which takes place in Rafter’s Restaurant, will also allow people to chat to the hospital’s Voluntary Services to find out more about the role.

Sunshine Radio and the League of Friends will also be on hand to provide information – and refreshments will also be provided.

Sheridan Flavin, Director of Human Resources said: “We’re looking for more people who are as passionate as we are about making sure our patients have the best possible experience in our hospital.

“Our existing volunteers at the Trust are absolute stars who always go the extra mile. It’s wonderful to have such dedicated people who sacrifice their own free time to support with the smooth running of the hospital.”

All volunteers are safety checked and trained prior to starting at the Trust. If you’d like to find about more about volunteering at Weston General Hospital but are unable to attend the event, please visit www.waht.nhs.uk and head to the ‘Working with us’ and then ‘Volunteering’ pages.
