Apprenticeships are a great way to learn and earn on the job. UHBW are committed to apprenticeships as a means of attracting new talent to our Trust, as well as developing the careers of our existing colleagues. We offer a variety of apprenticeships at the Trust, across clinical and non-clinical occupations, starting at level 2 (Intermediate apprenticeship) and progressing through to level 7 (Master's degree) in some subjects. We use training providers who are the best in their field. We are an apprenticeship levy payer and are committed to utilising this to embed high quality apprenticeships into our workforce.
An apprenticeship combines practical training in a job with study and are available to anyone aged 16 and over who are looking for an exciting opportunity to train, and further develop in their career. Upon successful completion of an apprenticeship, many of our apprentices are offered a permanent role here at the Trust. The majority of the apprenticeship theory is also completed on site by our partnered providers.

Apprenticeships are available to people over the age of 16- there is no upper age limit.
There is no particular time of year that we advertise apprenticeship jobs, so it's important to keep a regular check on the NHS careers website here https://www.jobs.nhs.uk/ You can set up an alert so you get a notification every time a vacancy containing the word "Apprentice" is posted.
The grades needed will depend on the apprenticeship you are applying for and will be stated clearly on the vacancy . As a general rule, maths and English at a Grade C/ 4 or higher is required as a minimum but in some level 2 apprenticeships, providing you can demonstrate an ability to work at a certain level, you may have an opportunity to study a maths/ English functional skills course alongside the apprenticeship to get to the required level.
Higher level and degree apprenticeships will require higher level qualifications, for example A-levels, another relevant level 3 qualification or a certain number of UCAS points.
We offer a wide variety of job roles for apprentices, including both clinical and non- clinical jobs. All Nursing Assistants joining our Trust will do so on an Apprentice Healthcare Support Worker programme.
Yes! The entry point into Nursing for Apprentices is a level 2 or 3 Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship. We offer a career progression route for staff into the Trainee Nurse Associate Apprenticeship ( level 5 foundation degree)
Yes- although maths and English GCSES ( or equivalent) will be essential when applying for some apprenticeships ( such as Degree roles) others may have more flexible entry criteria and may offer the opportunity for you to upskill your maths and English alongside the apprenticeship with Functional Skills exams.
The national minimum wage for apprentices is currently £4.30 per hour ( as of 1/4/21) As a Trust , we are committed to paying more than the national minimum apprenticeship wage, and each apprenticeship vacancy will state the salary that you would receive for that role. At the end of your apprenticeship, if you are then successfully offered a permanent role with us, your salary will increase to the bottom point of the salary scale for the role you are employed in.
Yes- having a Degree does not preclude you from doing an apprenticeship, providing it is in a significantly different subject area in order for you to be able to gain new knowledge and experience.
We recruit new apprentices on a fixed term contract which is for the duration of the apprenticeship programme. At the end of your apprenticeship, assuming you have completed successfully and applied yourself to your learning, we will discuss other opportunities which are available in the Trust. Most of our apprentices are subsequently offered a permanent post.
