The toys were donated by the clothing store Matalan in Locking Castle. Their big-hearted customers paid £5 each for them last week and then left them at the tills to be passed on to the hospital.
The customers also wrote festive messages on tags in the toys’ ears wishing the children a Happy Christmas.
Weston Area Health NHS Trust Medical Director Nick Gallegos said: “We are extremely grateful to the staff of Matalan for having this lovely idea and for thinking of the hospital as the place to give the toys at this special time of year.
“We continue our year-round message to people to ask themselves if they really need to come to the Emergency Department for their care, especially at Christmas – a notoriously busy time in the department.
“If they could access their care either from a pharmacist or a GP, then they should go there in the first instance and leave A&E for genuine emergencies only.
“Please think before you come to hospital – and Choose Well when looking for appropriate medical care over the holiday period.”
