In reaction to today’s news story by the BBC Ambulances face long delays at A&E, Nick Wood, Chief Executive, Weston Area Health NHS Trust said:
We make every effort to make sure that people aren't left waiting in ambulances and are admitted into our A&E department as soon as possible.
On some occasions the sheer numbers of people attending our A&E at once can result in unavoidable delays. However, people are not left stranded in ambulances, they are inside our A&E department accompanied by a health professional, waiting to be seen.
In readiness for this winter, we have been working closely with ambulance trusts and our healthcare partners across North Somerset to mitigate waiting times and implement support whereby only the people who need A&E are being brought here.
