National award for hospital cleaners

Weston General Hospital’s Housekeeping team has won a top prize at a national award ceremony, which recognises excellence in the NHS.

The team at the hospital, which is run by Weston Area Health NHS Trust, cleaned up at the Health Business Awards 2015, picking up the ‘Hospital Cleaning Award’ which honours exceptional delivery of clean and maintained environments for patients.

The team becomes the latest recipient of the award, after judges praised the effective leadership skills of its housekeeping supervisors and the high standards at the hospital, which has seen it achieving some of the highest marks in the country for cleanliness.

The Health Business Awards, established in 2007, recognises and celebrates the significant contributions made each year by organisations and individuals that work inside and alongside the NHS.

Sally Walsh, Housekeeping Manager at the Trust, said: “We’re delighted that our Housekeeping team has been recognised with the Hospital Cleaning Award.

“To be shortlisted nationally against some really stiff opposition was an achievement itself, but to win the award is fantastic.

“Keeping the hospital clean is an important role, and one we take extremely seriously. The entire team is actively involved to make sure that we consistently provide a clean and well maintained for patients – because we know that makes all the difference to the quality of time they spend with us.

“After the dedication that has gone into keeping the hospital as clean and maintained as possible, we are very proud to see our housekeeping team being recognised.”
