Have your say on Healthy Weston: Joining up services for better care in the Weston area

North Somerset CCG is inviting local people to help shape the future of health and care services at Weston General Hospital and other care providers in Weston super Mare, Worle and the surrounding villages of the south rurals.

People can get involved by attending an event near them over the coming months.

Healthy Weston: joining up services for better care in the Weston area, published in October, sets out a way forward to make sure people have the best possible health and care services suitable for their needs, now and in the future.

This includes thinking about how key local services such as GPs, community services, mental health, voluntary organisations and social care can work together to deliver more joined up care in the community and work more closely with Weston General Hospital.

Over the coming months, local health and social care providers, patients, carers, staff and the public will be encouraged to share their views on how services can work more closely together to provide better joined up care and be delivered differently to achieve this.

Clinical Chair and local GP Dr Mary Backhouse said: “Healthy Weston is a really exciting opportunity to transform health and care services in North Somerset and we need to hear from you so that we get it right.

“Like many parts of the country we face significant challenges with an ageing and growing population, increased and changing demand for our services and financial pressures. We need to think differently about how we provide services, to ensure that they continue to meet the needs of local people not just now, but into the future and it is really important we hear what people think about our plans to do this.”

Over the coming weeks, the CCG will be mapping out how best to provide and join up services for better care at Weston General Hospital and in the Weston area in conversation with local people, staff, carers and patients.

The CCG will be running a series of public events in November and January, where Weston-super-Mare residents and people living in surrounding areas are encouraged to ask questions and give their views on a wide range of health and care services.

James Rimmer, Chief Executive at Weston Area Health NHS Trust said:

“Healthy Weston looks at three important parts of our NHS. These are building a strong and vibrant future for Weston General Hospital, developing stronger GP services and creating a Care Campus so that hospital, GP and community health services work better together to care for our patients.

“We know these are all things that the public care passionately about. They’re also hugely important to the health and wellbeing of our community here in Weston.

“It’s very important that we hear from the public so your views can help influence what type of services the hospital provides in the future. I’ll be there on Tuesday as will some of the directors at the hospital and we’d urge as many people to attend as possible.”
