Pharmacy

The inpatient Pharmacy Department prepares medication for inpatients and patients being discharged.

The Main Pharmacy Department is located on the ground floor of the main hospital building.

The primary role of the inpatient Pharmacy Department is to care for inpatients of Weston General Hospital, through ensuring the best use of medicines, and providing information about medicines to both patients and to the professionals who treat them.

Hours of opening: Mon to Fri: 9 – 5:30pm, and Saturday 9 –12:30pm

Lead pharmacist: Sarah Karthauser

Tel: 01934 647061

We do not supply medication for outpatients. We work closely with the Lloyds Outpatient Pharmacy, which is situated on the ground floor, who dispense medication for hospital outpatients. Neither pharmacy is able to dispense prescriptions written by GPs.

Rowlands Outpatient Pharmacy

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust is partnered with Rowlands Pharmacy to provide an outpatient dispensing service at Bristol and Weston. Rowlands Pharmacy can be found in the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) Welcome Centre, and on the ground floor of Weston General Hospital (WGH).

The Outpatient Pharmacy dispenses all outpatient prescriptions for the Trust, including prescriptions from the Emergency Department. As well as dispensing outpatient prescriptions, the pharmacy is also available to staff and visitors to purchase a range of pharmacy retail items and over the counter medicines (please note this service is not available to inpatients OR to anyone else buying on an inpatients' behalf). Green FP10 prescriptions from your consultant or GP should be taken to your local community pharmacy/chemist - they cannot be dispensed at the on-site Rowlands Pharmacy.

Prescription collection and delivery options

  1. Collect from Rowlands Outpatient Pharmacy at Bristol Royal Infirmary  - open 7 days a week.
  2. Collect from Rowlands Outpatient Pharmacy at Weston General Hospital - open 6 days a week.
  3. Collect from a Day Lewis Pharmacy store

Rowlands Pharmacy has teamed up with Day Lewis Pharmacy to provide a community store collection service.

Prescriptions cannot be taken directly to Day Lewis Pharmacy for dispensing. They will be dispensed by the hospital outpatient pharmacy and then delivered to your nominated pharmacy for collection. The outpatient pharmacy team aim to have your items ready for you to collect within 72 hours.

The following Day Lewis Pharmacy stores are available for you to choose from:

  • Day Lewis, 6 Arnside Road, Southmead, Bristol, BS10 6AT
  • Day Lewis, Medical Centre, Love Lane, Burnham-on-Sea, TA8 1EU
  • Day Lewis, The Square, Axbridge, BS26 2AR

We recognise that each patient journey is different and not all patients will be able to collect their medication from one of the pharmacy sites. Where none of the above options meet your needs, a home delivery service is available.

Home Delivery

You will not incur any additional charges if you opt for home delivery. Home deliveries are arranged via a courier service. Rowlands Pharmacy currently use two different couriers to deliver medications. The delivery process varies depending on the courier used.

Our outpatient pharmacy team will aim to have your items dispatched for delivery within 48 hours.

Delivery by DPD (Primary Courier)

  • You will receive a text message reminder the day before your delivery is due.
  • You will receive a further text message reminder on the day of delivery, with a two-hour timeslot.
  • When delivering your prescription, the driver will ask you for a PIN code to confirm receipt of the delivery (this is in place of a signature). You will receive this unique code in the text message reminders.

Delivery by CitySprint (Refrigerated Items)

  • You will receive a text message reminder the day before your delivery is due.
  • Signature will be required by the driver to confirm receipt of delivery.
