The free drop-in event will provide people with an opportunity to find out more about the options available to them on where to have their baby, such as giving birth at home, at a birth centre or at a hospital.
Belinda Cox, Matron of Ashcombe Birth Centre, said: “Being pregnant brings with it lots of excitement, but also a lot of questions. This free event is for pregnant women, people planning babies, prospective grandparents – anyone with an interest”
“During our event, the team will be able to discuss the options that are available to you in your area, and what might work best for you.
“We also hope to educate people on the benefits of giving birth in a local facility, such as a freestanding unit under the care of a midwife, which is often the safest option for the majority of pregnant women.”
For women with straightforward pregnancies, it is advised (by NICE guidance) that planning to give birth in a midwifery‑led unit, such as Ashcombe Birth Centre, is the safest option.
Belinda adds; “There is a lot of misinformation about the safety of different birthing environments. We want to remind people that the options available to them locally are safe, accessible and convenient.”
