PICC Lines

The Unit offers a Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) Line insertion Service for Oncology & Haematology patients.

There are two qualified nurses trained for PICC Line placement.

The insertion of PICC lines takes place in the procedure room of the Oncology & Haematology Day Unit.

Appointments are made for pre-assessment prior to procedure, this is to explain and consent the patient for the procedure, take the required blood samples and assess the patients veins for insertion.

PICC placement appointments are made as and when required.

Post PICC insertion a chest X-ray is taken to assess tip position, which is confirmed by a Doctor.
