Update 09/07/2021: Our walk in hearing aid maintenance & repair clinic which used to previously run on a Tuesday and Friday morning has now been permanently stopped.

We now offer booked appointments only.

Please contact the department to book an appointment:

Please do not attend the department without an appointment.

When attending your appointment please be aware of the following information:

  • In line with government covid-19 guidelines you will need to wear a clinical face mask while in the hospital, unless you are exempt. These are available at the front entrance of the hospital.
  • Please attend alone unless you need the support of a carer.
  • Please arrive on time but try not to be too early as we have reduced seating capacity in the waiting room in line with social distancing measures.

We are continuing to offer a postal service for hearing aid repairs if you are unable to visit the hospital. Please package your hearing aid/s well and post to the address below along with your record book or address and a brief description of the problem.

Services provided in Hearing Service

We offer a wide range of clinical and rehabilitation services including:

  • Direct referral hearing assessments for patients referred by their GP
  • Audiological support for ENT clinics
  • Individual management plans including provision of digital hearing aids
  • Individual follow-up care
  • Repair and maintenance of hearing aids
  • Therapy programmes for patients referred by ENT who experience tinnitus or balance problems
  • Advice, support and training to other professionals and carers

What conditions are treated?

We treat patients with varying degrees of hearing loss, patients who are affected by tinnitus and patients who experience balance problems. All patients must be referred to the department either by their GP or by an ENT consultant. We do not accept self–referrals to the department.

Who are the client groups?

We deal mainly with adult patients over the age of 16 years referred by their GP or through ENT.

If I have tests how will I get the results?

If you have a Direct Referral appointment (booked following referral from your GP) the audiologist will discuss your results with you immediately following your hearing assessment.

If your appointment is through ENT, the consultant will discuss your results with you at your ENT appointment.

What forms of diagnostic service or therapy are there?

Once the diagnosis of a hearing loss has been made, the treatment may be to fit either one or two hearing aids or to be referred on to the Hearing Therapist for rehabilitation. Sometimes there may be a combination of treatments and different forms of treatment at different times.

Where can I get more information about my diagnostic test or therapy?

Ask your consultant or audiologist. Action On Hearing Loss also have a website that is a good source of information on a variety of topics: http://www.actiononhearingloss.org.uk/
