Services provided in Hearing Service
We offer a wide range of clinical and rehabilitation services including:
What conditions are treated?
We treat patients with varying degrees of hearing loss, patients who are affected by tinnitus and patients who experience balance problems. All patients must be referred to the department either by their GP or by an ENT consultant. We do not accept self–referrals to the department.
Who are the client groups?
We deal mainly with adult patients over the age of 16 years referred by their GP or through ENT.
If I have tests how will I get the results?
If you have a Direct Referral appointment (booked following referral from your GP) the audiologist will discuss your results with you immediately following your hearing assessment.
If your appointment is through ENT, the consultant will discuss your results with you at your ENT appointment.
What forms of diagnostic service or therapy are there?
Once the diagnosis of a hearing loss has been made, the treatment may be to fit either one or two hearing aids or to be referred on to the Hearing Therapist for rehabilitation. Sometimes there may be a combination of treatments and different forms of treatment at different times.
Where can I get more information about my diagnostic test or therapy?
Ask your consultant or audiologist. Action On Hearing Loss also have a website that is a good source of information on a variety of topics: http://www.actiononhearingloss.org.uk/
